CDS stands for Combined Defence Services. CDS Exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year. Men(Only) can be part of the Indian Air Force by applying for CDS Exam and will get Permanent Commission on successfully passing out.

Note: Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 years.
Height & Weight
Height: 157 cms (162.5 cms for Air Force)Weight: Proportionate to the height and age.
Note: For Gorkhas and individual belonging to hills of North- Eastern region of India, Garhwali and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable height will be 5 cms less. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum acceptable height will be by 2 cms less.
Selection
Candidates who apply for Air Force through more than one source will be tested/interviewed at Air Force Selection Boards only once for Air Force as well as other arms of services. Common candidate who fail in Computer Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and/or Pilot Aptitude Battery Test as an NCC or Airmen candidate will be called again for OLQ testing for Army/Navy/OTA only, if it is found that he has applied through CDS Exam., also.Note: Every candidate for the Air Force is given Pilot Aptitude Test only once. The Grade secured by him at the first test (CPSS and/or PABT) will therefore hold good for every subsequent interview at the Air Force Selection Board. Those who have failed Computer Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and/or Pilot Aptitude Battery Test earlier and those who habitually wear spectacles are not eligible for Air Force.
Admit Cards
The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admit Card three weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admit Card will be made available in the UPSC website [www.upsc.gov.in] for downloading by candidates. No admit Card will be sent by post.Training
The approximate duration of training for Flying Branch (Pilots) at the Air Force Academy will be 74 weeks.Cadets are authorised fixed stipend amounting to Rs. 21,000/- per month (Rs. 15,600/- pay in the pay band and Rs. 5,400/-as grade pay) during training.
Educational Qualifications
i. Graduate (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) OR B.Tech. (Four Year Course).ii. Final Year/semester students are also eligible to apply, provided they produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.
iii. No Percentage Bar for CDSE entry.

Scheme of CDS Examination
1. The subjects of the written examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject will be as follows:| Paper | Time | Marks |

3. The candidates are not permitted to use calculator or Mathematical or logarithmic table for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets).
4. Each question will have four optional answer candidates have to choose the right one only.
5. There will be negative marking for incorrect response in the objective type questions.
